The eagerly awaited MMORPG of the year, Age of Conan, has finally been released by popular game developer Funcom. Though the Age of Conan release schedule made it a major rival for EA’s Warhammer Online, Funcom have been able to complete the game almost 6 months prior to the predicted date given by EA. Even though their rival received a far superior budget, many are anticipating AoC to outsell Warhammer Online as the game goes from strength to strength. Funcom have constantly stated the importance of being true to the core themes of Conan and the world of Hyboria. All of the team assigned to AoC were instructed to become Howard fanatics prior to even beginning work on the game. Age of Conan is not a fairytale land in which good must triumph over adversity, Age of Conan is different. This realm is a daunting world in which decisions are often hard to make and the fairytale world is very far away. Age of Conan is miles away from games such as World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online. Age of Conan provides a revolutionary combat system changed entirely from the traditional notion of World of Warcraft etc. This will pose a challenge for some gamers who are used to the one click combat presented in many other titles. The developer’s creation could be one of the first major MMORPG episodes to be released multi-platform, with release predicted for at least one major gaming platform.It may not be long until players on both PC and games console can do battle in the same online world.
