One of the most influential gay pornographic actors of all time was the sexy icon known as Al Parker. Andrew Robert Okun, later known to the porn world as Al Parker, was born in 1952 and died in 1992 at the young age of 40 from complications of AIDS. Al Parker began his career as a butler at the Playboy Mansion for Hugh Hefner. He has made a lasting impact being a crusader who was willing to put his career on the line to make a statement about safe sex practices. Making a statement condoning wearing a condom during sex would immortalize him as the personification of a more responsible gay sexuality. Al Parker has been hailed as being a sexually arousing young man whose stamina, impressive endowment, and famous beard made him one of the most sought after gay movie performers ever. Al Parker met up with Richard Cole in the 1970s, who helped acquaint Parker with the world of guiltless, unattached sex. In 1980, Richard Cole and Al Parker formed Surge Studios and began their pornography film career together. During the discovery of AIDS and the epidemic that followed, Surge Studios was one of the first companies to promote safe sex practices to its viewers, fans, and supporters. Unfortunately, in 1986 Richard Cole died from complications from AIDS. Al Parker continued to direct, produce, and star in these triple X movies. Surge Studios began making films that followed a plot and had a theme, and started to stray from the overly common film loops movies without a storyline or theme. Sadly, Al Parker passed away from becoming ill from complications of AIDS in 1992 after playing roles in almost 30 different movies. Some of the movies that Al Parker starred in during his short career are Daddys Plaything in 1985, Hard Disk Drive in 1984, Turbo Charge in 1987, Better than Ever in 1989, and his last film, Overload in 1992. In 2008, a tribute of sorts to Al Parker was released that was titled The Best of Al Parker. Al Parker is the subject of Roger Edmonsons biography Clone: The Life and Legacy of Al Parker Gay Superstar. After he passed away in 1992, Al Parkers remains were cremated and a memorial service was held at his private residence in California.
