I have been visiting the Appalachian mountains as long as I can remember. My family used to take trips during the summer, usually to different spots in the mountains each year. I remember that I got a pair of moccasins one year that I wore until they were nearly falling part on my feet, and even then, I waited until I absolutely could not fit my foot into them before I would concede that it was time that I stopped wearing them. Anyway, my memories of NC mountain cabin rentals are all very fond, so when I had a family of my own, I decided that it was time to start looking into some mountain vacations. We started off looking into Asheville pet friendly cabins. My thinking was that we really just weren't going to be able to avoid kenneling our dog, and she's so sweet and well-behaved that she would probably travel better than our kids would! At the very least she won't continually ask us if we're there yet. I also know that the kids would miss her and be upset at the idea of her having to stay at the vet's while they were on vacation. Once we decided to take our dog with us, it was almost as if things became much more clear in terms of where to stay. There were a ton of great options- I could stay in Asheville cabin rentals every summer for the rest of my life and probably not exhaust all the possible options- and so many of them were not only willing to have pets there, but actually had really nice accommodations meant for pets. Having a fenced in yard and a doggy bed was such a wonderful luxury for all of us. We didn't have to change our usual schedule of getting up, letting the dog out and having our breakfast before letting her back in. Having been on other vacations where it was a constant "ok, who's going to take her out this time" type game, not needing to have our sweet pup on a leash every time she needed to go was really convenient. I am very pleased by how many cabin rental companies or individuals understand that pets are an important part of our life, and that traveling with them should be as easy and convenient as traveling without them. My family loves the outdoors, so when I discovered that we could stay in a cabin on an actual working farm, that was just perfect. It had all the amenities we wanted in a rental, including a hot tub so that we could relax at night, plus extras that we would never have been able to anticipate. There was also the fact that rather than having all our entertainment located in town, we could actually stay around the rental and have a great time. There were farm animals we could give treats to and learn about, pottery and fiber classes that were available, and a lot of land to explore. There's nothing like fresh fruit from the orchard on your morning walk.
