Rock music is a very popular and widespread type of music. Rock music has been in the spotlight for many years and has become a great global trend. New artists play this type of music day in and day out and myriads of people out there listen to rock music every day. There are many talented artist who associate themselves with rock music, there a re are many talented composers just like there are of rock music. A single day doesn’t go by without listening or hearing a bit of rock music. Think about it, this type of music is so widespread that every time you turn on the television, the radio, or even go out and watch a movie you are going to hear at least a few seconds of rock music. It is all around us. The reason is that rock music is also part of a stream of popular music. The beginnings of popular music can be dated further back, to the end of the 19th century. In fact, it would be more accurate to define today's rock music as the meeting of avant-garde music and popular music. The thing to understand about rock music is that it was not developed over night. It wasn’t a single artist or group of artists that started playing rock music. Rock developed over time and was a derivative from other different types of music. There is also a strong tradition and connection between rock and blues from the 1940s onwards, and also related to the growth of jazz. The basic concept behind rock tradition is a revolutionary idea and fun. Even today, as long as a band is entertaining, people will continue to listen. As long as listeners can associate themselves with the notions behind the music Rock music will be popular. It is an amalgam of many different elements that make this type of music so popular. Nevertheless, there are no standard ingredients no fixed basis and no successful elements to create this type of music. Same goes with instruments used to create it. Although, many artists use the eclectic guitar, bass and drums to do so in genera, there is no fixed set of instruments or orchestration that is needed to play a rock song. Drums, a bass, guitars are almost always there, but they are not required; the same goes for vocals or lyrics, as a rock song can do very well without words or a singer. In order to understand how rock music has evolved over the years it is somewhat important to understand how certain kinds of rock music have developed over the years. A good example is progressive rock. Progressive rock songs ranged from lush, beautiful songs to atonal, dissonant, and complex songs. There are many types of this kind of music and it highly depends on the artists experiences and influences. Progressive rock music bands, such as the Moody Blues, Rush, and Yes, experimented with a wide range of instruments, and often included improvisational musical solos that could last for ten or even twenty minutes. In general, as demonstrated, there is no standard way to perceive rock music or to present it. It is form of expressing and relating to strong feelings.
